A Little Walk.

I got to hang out with some of my favorite people on earth this weekend.

Lucky, lucky me.

Milestones.

A couple of weeks ago, I ran into a crazy little milestone.

It wasn't one of the kid's (the kind I like).

It was all mine.

No. Wait.  It may have looked more like this.

So you know, 40 year-olds are responsible people who wear suits and drive station wagons and don't like the music too loud.

You can see where I might take issue with this.

The good news...DRS decided the best medicine was margaritas.  And several of the best friends a girl (woman?) could ask for.

So he threw me a party.  And it made my heart happy.

And some of my favorite, favorite, favorite beings were there.

So. As it turns out, with enough love around you - it's quite easy to pass right by a milestone and not think much of it.

Enough love and margaritas, I mean.

In No Particular Order.

Things have been chugging along at break-neck speed here in the Emerald City.

There've been recitals and plays and field days and end-of-school activities.  I really need a nap.

And Miss Stella has been sick.  Like pukey, stinky, cranky sick for the last 36 hours.

I repeat, I need a nap.

I mean, I sure feel sorry for her.  And will choose to not dwell on the puke or the whining...but rather the better parts of her week.

Including.

Sleeping in her swimmies (aka her swimsuit).  I mean, you can only have fun when you get to sleep in your swimsuit.  Or be uncomfortable?  Either/or.

Eating ice cream in a Mickey Mouse shirt.  Goes without saying - fun.

Hanging out with your fellow dancers at the big show.  Fun, fun, fun.

In other news...Henry is still cute.

My cute, stinky almost-first-grader fella.

Who helps me practice shutter speed shots while he's taking a bath.

And who loves surprise visits from Gramma Judy.

So here's to two more days of this week.  May they be considerably slower than the last five.

And if you need me, I'll just be over here...taking a nap.

Dress Rehearsal

Stella has a dance recital tonight.

So, this morning, she and I headed over to West Seattle for the dress rehearsal.

And it went a little something like this.

How will the big show compete?

Alligators. Crocodiles. Baboons. Iguanas.

Every weekday morning, Henry and I get in the car, drive to his school and walk down the hill to his playground.  I wait with him until 9:20 and then walk with his classmates to the classroom and wave goodbye.  Without fail, our last bit of morning conversation sounds like this:

Henry: See you later alligator.
Me: After while crocodile.
Henry: Not too soon baboon.
Me:  In the manana iguana.

And then I leave.  And I'm happy.

This morning, I had an early work call to take - so I could only walk him down the hill...didn't have time to wait until the bell rang.  We said quick goodbyes and he ran off with his friends.

I turned around and started to walk back up the damn hill and he yells my name.  Mom. Comes running as fast as he can across the playground, panting.  And starts our ritual.  See you later alligator...

Gives me a kiss and then runs back to his friends.

Apparently it makes us both happy.

And that 30 seconds is enough to completely make my day.  Particularly because he still looks like this to me in my mind.

The baboon.
